One of the biggest mistakes made by people setting up a small online businesses is in the methods they use due to their lack of experience.
Every day fantastic ideas are born for online businesses, however due to the manner in which they are incorporated it means many are destined to fail.
This is how people generally develop their small online business.
1. The idea is born.
2. The services of a cheap web designer are commissioned.
3. After 3 months the website has attracted few visitors, so PPC is tried, however after 3 to 6 months this is ceased as it is viewed as not cost effective.
4. In a desperate attempt to make money from the website Google advertising and affiliate programmes are incorporated, this is another disastrous move.
5. The site still attracts few visitors so in a last ditch attempt to attract visitors spam type tactics are implemented, again without success.
6. In 1 year the website owner gives up on the idea and starts another venture, incorporating the exact same tactics, not knowing they are once again sure to fail.
I guess it is sad but there are millions of people who fall into this category.
This is how small online ventures should be incorporated.
1. The idea is born
2. Detailed research is carried out on the competitors in the sector, who is doing well and why.
3. Detailed research into the fundamentals of SEO is carried out.
4. After grasping SEO, commission the services of a designer who will build the site in the manner your require, always remember the designer works for you.
5. Clients are offered incentives and low cost services/products, profit margin is not a concern at this early stage
6. As SEO is understood, unique content is added to regularly and links are built up in a steady manner.
By following this process it will not guarantee anyone success, it will just increase the chances of a business still being around in 10 years time. The problem with most small online operators is their refusal to serve any kind of apprenticeship, they look for the easy option instead of the right option. The only people doing well from the get-rich-quick society we live in, is the designers of cheap websites.
