A Week with VBulletin

Myself and a friend had discussed doing a forum on our favourite game, Football Manager, for a while. We set one up with phpBB, but agreed that all the big successful rivals had either IPB or VB. Essentially, professional software which they had paid for.
I argued that phpBB can be skinned to not look as much like phpBB, but he said it would be worth it. We decided on VB, as it was slightly cheaper and my small experience using it here. So, we went halfs on a year leased license (deciding that if, after 1 year it was still running, we would get a proper never ending one.)
I have to say I was nervous when I was installing it because I didn't want it to go wrong. But when I loaded up the install file I knew my money was well spent. It took me through the steps easily, quickly and with no error. I logged into the admincp, and it took me 10 minutes to set up my forums and add a couple of usergroups. The options, however many there are, are all easily explained and easy to understand. It is worth the money.
The template and modifications are easy to add, very rarely do you need to actually edit any files. And the updates are just as easy.
So, anyone considering buying VB, go for it. You will not regret it. As for IPB, I can't comment, but I have heard it is similar.

I've used IPB in the past, very nice. Definitely recommend it. Personally I like the IPB admin CP much better than VB's.

Vbulletin is the best of course, very simple to use and excellent features. I hated phpbb so frustrating when installing mods etc and the mods were only things like adding a quick reply.
Once you have VB I doubt anyone would go back! |
