Can't think of anything...

Windows Vista vs. Mac Leopard

In my opinion, there are positive and negative things about both.

Windows Vista:
Positive :: Stunning look, excellent graphics, neat effects. The new interface, including Flip3D (awesome equivalent to Alt+Tab) and SideBar, makes using windows much easier.
Negative :: A lot of software, such as many Adobe Products, do not correctly work on Vista. This is because Vista is a lame recreation of Unix.

Mac Leopard:
Positive :: Great new tools, such as Stacks, Spaces, and TimeMachine, make Mac better than ever.
Negative :: Only about 15% of the world's computer users have a Mac. It's not that popular because it's more expensive!

Personally, I prefer Mac Leopard as a computer, but Windows Vista in terms of looks (I just love Flip3D!).

What is your preference?

Note: This post is not meant as advertisement. I am not trying to sell computers!

Just because programs cvan't be used on vista doesn't make it bad. They will soon enough be able to work on it. I love the look, graphics, and toold on it. Much more easier to work with. XP on the otehr hand can sometimes be a real pain in the buttox!

I'd prolly recommend Vista.

You're right, it does not make it completely bad, but it is a pain. And, actually, they won't work on Vista! Microsoft is already making a new version of Windows: Vienna... So, either deal with Vista, or wait for Vienna (expected around the end of 2009).

I have not had a problem with any program on Vista ???

I have Adobe CS3 and it works hitch-free Of all the things good about Vista, the flip-3D is the thing I use least. It is aesthetic and superficial lol but it seems to be the thing that people who don't own Vista love about it.

Macs are great but not supported widely enough for programs and hardware that I like to use (and Mac specific Hardware always seems more expensive). I have a Mac that I use for video editing on occasion but mainly it sits there until I need to test a website in Safari and other Mac browsers...

Vista, as with all Microsoft operating systems to date... Except Win 98se, was released before it was ready. They set themselves an unrealistic launch date and rather than make themselves out to appear unreliable they released an unfinished product.

By SP2 it should be fine.

Swagner, where did you get the statistic that 15% of computer uses own a Mac? I thought it was closer to 3% - Isnt the 15% relating to Apples share of the media market altogether, i.e, iphone, ipod etc?

I've yet to try Leopard, I'm not in any hurry to though.

I think you're right about the 15%. Macs alone are actually 5%.

I'm hanging on to XP for as long as I can, then Mac here I come. Ok, so the hardware might be a tad more expensive, but check out the OS prices!

Vista just feel clunky. I don't want transparent or animated windows. I don't need fancy effects and over-blown visual customisation. I don't want to Allow or Deny every app, every process or anything that does something. I want an OS that just works and doesn't suck the life out of my hardware. Yeah, XP has it's quirks, but I know it inside out and it does what I want.

Plus what were they thinking with 6 releases!? Microsoft are getting a bit of a joke are they not?

Honestly, I aggree! Microsoft is just hanging on for dear life... Mac is getting better and better, and one day, people will realize it, switch to Mac, and shove Microsoft, face first, into the dirt.

I actually really like Leopard and Vista pretty equally. CS3 works perfectly in Vista for me and actually *seems* to run a little better than on my girlfriends Mac. But the main reason I use Vista is because I can use whatever hardware I want, I know it very well, and it feel smuch more efficient (i.e. explorer vs. finder, taskbard vs. dock) but I could use either. I don't think either is a clear winner.

Just commenting about hardware is not the only case, Macs are cool for graphics design and so on, yet windows vista sets the standered by making use of direct x10, not to mention that the software for vista is already better quality than "Macs" even with the hitches it somtimes provides, and like people have said they havent even got started yet! Personally i dont think you can bet a fully configured Xp for reliability! I have tried them all and here's my conclusion Mac is to expensive!!! Linux is free but looks about as boring as you could get!!! Vista looks great but is battered with bugs!! XP is reliable and trustworthy. A simple solution is to duel boot all 4!!! Best of both worlds

I am an avid user of both Vista and Mac OSX 10.5
I employ all the benefits of each separately, but do have one very positive thing to say about Vista.

The built in speech engine works amazingly better than in past versions of Microsoft's OS. Vista Speech, although not as powerful as, say, Dragon Naturally Speaking 10, is FREE.

I use it for a number of medical dictations, and have found a third party vocabulary with a more advanced speech recognition algorithm. They're call VistaDictation. You can visit their site, http://www.vistadictation.com, and check it out for yourself. Theay also offer a great solution for Electronic Medical Records, MedTemps, which makes a seamless integration in to Microsoft Word.
