Rate my Pet??
I have a tiny ember of an idea for a site, unfortunatly it seems that its going to require some pretty hefty database's to drive it.
I'm sure youve all seen those "ratemypet" sites, where people can upload pictures of themselves or their pets and have other people rate them, and in some instanes leave comments etc on said "pets".
I was wondering if Php / My sql would be the prefered route for acheiving this? And possibly an indication of how difficult it may be to acheive.
All suggestions appreciated

Re: Rate my Pet??
You could try chucking a bucket of water over your tiny ember before it catches fire completely.

Re: Rate my Pet??
Its realy easy with php and mysql. A user just creates an entry in a table and then you need a simple rating system

Re: Rate my Pet??
thats what i figured ..... however, the ones ive seen are generally extremely badly done, and are missing much of the functionality that i would like to see in these type of sites.
take myspace for example.... its horrible
this is a design issue i suppose, but is there any real reason why this type of site tends to look like the attrocity from the black lagoon, or is it just lack of design ability on the part of the creators?
Opinions obviously rather than fact on this one

Re: Rate my Pet??
having made an entire cms for my website in php mysql i realized there is a huge difference in the way you design your tables.
an example of a bad table:
Users:
Cols:
username, password, pic1,pic2,pic3,pic4pic5,pic6
this is a hassle and limits the person to 6 pics. it also makes programming easy and lazy, forms turn into a list.
a better method would be:
pictures:
owner, type, pic
then you would have a control panel type form for it, that shows what images the person has up and alows them to add as many as they have.

Re: Rate my Pet??
yeah, ive allways been told that you should use seperate tables for each item in your database.
So, 1 table for you members, passwords & personal information
&
Another table for your member inputted content, profiles & the links to there pictures.
Is this what you were driving at?

ill leave the origional post above, because ii like the idea of moderators having psychatric episodes.... it makes me feel human
