Starting an ecommerce site and would like some input :)

Hey everybody!

I've been looking through the forums for information on Cart solutions. I think there is def a wealth of good information here and I have learned a lot so far. I think I am going to settle on a certain {unnamed} cart but i'd like to get some extra feedback from the community before I decide for sure.

Heres the dirty.
-I'll have about 200 items.
-Cart system of course
-Some extra fun features or a plugins like feautred products would be good.
-Search function would be nice. Maybe the ability to search by price?
-I'm gonna throw paypal, google, and credit checkout.
-I'd like to design something nice, so design flexibility is a must. Even if I have to just throw tags around after designing the site that would be ok. Or if its got a template system where you just edit the template thats cool too.
-I can handle html, css, php, and asp.
-I'll probably using dreamweaver for hard coding and wysiwyg.
-I have a budget of about $300 and would prefer at one time fee type of purchase.

I appreciate all and any suggestions!

Agree with you that Magento is the best e-commerce software. But it's important to choose the right company it to run smoothly. I can recommend you SimpleHelix.com for that.

Quicker? yeah why can't I run it myself?

And I do like Megento. I checked that out and really could not believe that it is free. I think I am going to have to say that I am willing to pay up to $300 to purchase a good ecommerce solution that I can work with.

Thanks for your input welshstew! I appreciate it.

Anybody else want to throw in their 2 cents?

If you would rather something not too bloated with features you'll never use you should take a look at CubeCart.

Re: Starting an ecommerce site and would like some input :)

Magento is pimpin' hard. It looks too amazing to be free. I will post to the proper section in a few weeks with my design and let all of you look at it and tell me how much of a n00b I am

Thanks again Welshstew!

Hello Haynest, I would recommend you to use an SSL Certificate when concerning security issues. They are a must for an online payment system as they build a trust among the customers when talking about secure websites and on the technical front, they encyrpt the data to ensure that the information given by the cutomers is delivered to the recepient server with no loss on ther pathway. The SSL trust is an important feature for online secure payments enabling secure ecommerce deals.
