which e-commerce OS to stick to
Buddies, before hosting you e-shop in the Internet, I think you have to choose e-commerce OS, mean the best for you OS.
How have you made your choice? Which things have you taken into consideration?
Many companies provide different e-commerce OSs, some even specialize in definite OS like simplehelix.com in Magento and siteground.com in Zen Cart.
I'm at a loss now.
So you thoughts needed.

I would highly recommend magento, as it is very easy to use and theme, produces fantastic code, and the customer experiance when making a purchase is second to none

ZenCart is good as well but it's important to remember what company to use it from. Say mmhosting.com support it on the nice conditions, have heard many positive feedbacks about their activity as well.

Re: which e-commerce OS to stick to
Magento is probably the best 'free' shopping cart on the market but it's not really suitable for beginners. CubeCart on the other hand is very simple to use and configure with more third party mods available than you could throw a stick at.
It really depends on the features you require and whether you are happy with the security of your website being in the hands of a community or whether you would prefer to have an actual company behind a product who pays out to have the code security and hacker checked.
Before deciding anything you need to sit down and make a list of the features you require. Then you can have a look at all the carts available to see if they suit your needs or not.

Thanks for your replies, buddies.
But I have found out that Magento is resource-intensive software and I'd prefer to use something lighter like, for example CubeCart or ZentCart that mmhosting.com offers.

If you're going to choose between Zen and Cube then i would definately recommend Cube over Zen.
Zen has more features than Cube as standard but all these extra features can be added by using third party mods if you need them. CubeCart is extreemly easy to use whereas ZenCart can be very confusing to newbies. Skinning CubeCart is very easy, the templates are all html and css with no need to touch any php whereas ZenCart can be difficult if you don't know any php. CubeCart is professionally security audited and has a UK Ltd company behind it whereas ZenCart is run by its community.
Good luck

i would say ZenCart as it has more out of the box on a fresh clean install. The confusing parts can be over come quickly

Re: which e-commerce OS to stick to
We use CubeCart for eCommerce websites that complete from 100 to 1000 transactions per year. For enterprise level solutions, we use Interspire. We strongly recommend both of these, and have not really had any problems with either. The only thing I'd like to highlight with CubeCart is the difference in quality between the third party mods available and the fact that most mods are built straight into the source code making future updates harder.
The Interspire modules are usually sitting next to the core code, thus making updates much easier.

Re: which e-commerce OS to stick to
Im currently testing Interspire with the view to it replacing our own store in the new year and it's certainly an impressive cart. It is very expensive though compared with most of the other big boys such as Viart, ClickCartPro & JShop but you certainly get what you pay for
On the plus side they do have partnership programs for developers such as ourselves which offers a very good discount
