Re: WOTM August Voting
Thats whats happening with graphical content these days, we are now using cute images to sell sites. I used to win website of the month every month by placing a picture of three small gibbons within a table and that was the site, no navigation, nothin

What blog are you on about? because there are two blogs, I am guessing you are on about my blog, as it says it is a blog above.

Re: WOTM August Voting
I like the last one - nice and colourful, great graphics, surely the way of the future!
Although I envy the opportunities the youngsters have these days wrt web design, I have to say I think he's done a good job of not just following the pack, he's done his own thing and made it work. My only criticism is that the plane takes up too much room at the top, can hardly see any actual content without scrolling down.
The others - didn't seem too inspiring to me; Girls Only Forum seems like just a standard forum with pink graphics, still have no clue what the dolphin one is about or what it's purpose is, mevans76 is slow to load and the diagonals in the top flicker in my periphery when reading the text.
Am I making sense? Maybe I am just old-fashioned

Re: WOTM August Voting
Well in my defense =P. In all speed tests on an average line my site loads in under 2 seconds with complete load on idex average is 3.6 secs which is still under 4 which is well within acceptable parameters, so unless you are on a bad connection running a cheap computer like an e-machine or similar (poor graphics/processor = flicker) there should be no issues with visuals or speed. But valid concerns, however I don't support IE 6 wit my personal projects either. I hate the design anyway heh.

Just compared to the others, I could see your pages drawing whereas the others I could not, it was not a major thing. I'm running Safari on a 1.8GHz Intel iMac so my machine is no slouch I think the flicker thing is probably a trick on the eye more than anything else... maybe just me.

Re: WOTM August Voting
Yeah it does have a draw on initial load. Haven't used it on an iMac just my two Macbook pro's and a Macbook. the iMac screen is probably a bit more detailed. At any rate no matter, your comments were all valid. Just thought I would explain some dorky aspects of the whole thing. Any one who would read my site, which is like no one =P would be in a very specific user set.
At any rate, it is what it is lol. I am a really bad designer with very little concept of color coordination. Hence the striping that you may be experiencing. My experience lies in more behind the scenes sorts of things heh.

Re: WOTM August Voting
On the mevans76 site I get no flicker at all, that must be a trick your eyes are playing on you.
The blog I dont like so much is the Craig Ferrels blog. I like everything below the first thing that is displayed which takes up all of my screen.

Re: WOTM August Voting
I voted for Mevans 76 - http://www.mevans76.com/
But I honestly have problems with all of these sites.
Dolphin Elite: I went to this site and I didn't know what it was all about. I liked the way it looked but I actually had to click around a bit to find out what Dolphin was.
Girls Only Forum: This is just a forum. I like forums and all but there's not much else to it and I question its safety. Looks like a great place for predators to hang out.
Mevans 76: again, I didn't know what this site was all about until I clicked around a bit. It's a good looking site but it made me work to find out. I don't like that at all.
Craig Ferrel's Blog: I think it's a fresh approach to a blog but again, I wasn't sure what it was when I first got there. The top image is 500 pixels tall and it tells me nothing about the page I'm on. Also, some of the graphics need to be a bit more polished.
Anyway, I hope that I'm not making any enemies with these comments, they are really supposed to be helpful.

lol no comments, feedback etc are always welcome, hell we dish it out enough in the critique forum. I think i can speak for every one here when I say we all appreciate good constructive criticism, and even when you have done it for a while, been around the block etc etc mistakes are made, errors are made and a good swift kick in the butt is sometimes necessary.
Thank you for your quick yet valuable commentary on all the entrants. We do appreciate it.

Re: WOTM August Voting
"Looks like a great place for predators to hang out."- A lot of forums you could say the same for. For example there is one called teenhut.com, placed filled with teenagers and they could use that for their own sick ways; there are plenty of other examples I could give also. At girls only forum we try and stamp out things like this where it is detectable.

Re: WOTM August Voting
I can't say how odd these post get. I will anyway, very odd.
I really liked Craig Ferrel's Blog - http://blog.cfdesignz.co.uk/
I have not seen many sites as creative as this one.
