my question is about ie6 and ie7 creating unwanted vertical gap of 3px

in my page i have an outer div which is holding 4 inner divs following is the code

after this a new div starts with width 900px with the remaining page content, in order to clear the floats before the new div starts i have used

due to this the next div top edge starts exactly below the bottom edge of the outer div which is holding the inner divs, only in ie6 and ie7 there is a small vertical gap which i want to remove, as of now i have used
*margin: -3px 0 0 0; and _margin: -3px 0 0 0; for ie6 and ie7 for the next div and it looks similar to all other browsers

instead of using the -3px top margin is a way i can avoid the 3px vertical gap that ie is creating.
can i change .break to
.break{
clear: both;
height: 1px;
}

i am not very sure of this. sometimes this code also works <div class="clear"></div> .clear{clear: both;} as an alternative to <br class="break" />

also i have tried using the following code to fix ie6 and 7

}

margin: -3px 0 0 0;
}


the advantage of using * html does not give any warnings when i validate the code from w3.org website however using _ and * gives a warning message for using _ and *

please advice if there is a way to avoid the 3px gap in ie6 and 7 without the above code or if there is no other alternative other than to use any of the 2 techniques

I am new to web development. had idea on html. i was recently assigned with a projet to construct a tool which has two functionalities

To track and enter number of working hours for employees and their related projects

1) search/select employee so that the projects he is involved in and number of working hours he has been allocated should be shown.

In the similar way they can search for projects so that the number of employees who are working on the project and how many hours for the employee

2) Here, when the manager enters with his user ID, we have to display a table which contains information of his team members horizontally and their projects vertically. for example manager X has logged in, he has 3 employees and 2 projects he is dealing with. then the table should contain 6 cells. where he can allocate the number of hours for an employee and this has to be updated in the database. These tables have to be created dynamically depending on the manager who logged in.

for this i have developed the database in SQL SERVER. i need to use web as frontend.but i dont know which technology should be used to do the project. as i am new to here, can you suggest me the easy language/script to learn and do this project. i will be grateful if someone is willing to guide me in this. this is my first project in my job and have to finish in time. i have around 3 weeks. please..please help me

Hi guys

Ive been tweaking whats there so far on the following jquery/html based site:

I first tried testing it on IE. On IE8 all looks okay.

Im ignoring 6.

On 7, the following problems occur:

1) A script error dialog box appears (see scripterror.jpg) - does anyone know why?

2) I click yes, and the javascripts for showing and hiding content areas that work in firefox and ie 8 seem to not take effect at all, nor does the effect on the 'services' and 'about' sections (when you click the orange arrows next to bold text, the answer or description appears underneath), although the fade in/out image across the top next to the slogan "Same day quote.. next day service.." etc still works (sort of) - does anyone know why this is?

3) the fading images across the top next to the slogan "Same day quote.. next day service.." etc seem to take on a black ugly background when swapping over (see fadebackground.jpg)..I got the jquery plugin from http://malsup.com/jquery/cycle/lite/ - can anyone stop this happening?

4) there is a huge gap between the grey strip where the buttons and fading images are and the cream colored main content area..

I then validated the site using w3c's html validator in hope that it would iron out maybe one or even 2 of these problems.

Hi. I've been trying to get the slider/tabber to work in my website at sarahcunningham.org which is powered by Blogger.

In Blogger, when I "previewed" the code, the slider and tabber functioned correctly. However, after I published it, they both stopped working.

The slider is supposed to advance to other pics and text. Right now, when you click the next and previous arrows, it does nothing.

The tabber is supposed to provide content based on the link--About, JoinMe or Subscribe--that is clicked on. Right now, it is showing the content for all three with every link.

I used the instructions on the website http://all-iknow.blogspot.com/2009/0...-template.html , which was supposedly posted by the person who converted the website and demo (which of course works).
I have tried to leave posts for this person as well, but have not had any responses. I'm at a loss.

Can someone please help me?

Link is presently set up so when you click you get to view the .pdf file. I would prefer to have the .pdf file to be downloaded and saved rather than just view so the file can be viewed later and contact is not lost with the web page. I am familiar with basic HTML and getting to old to learn the fancy stuff. Would appreciate help with the coding.

Hey guys, I’m taking care of a website for a company that has locations in two general locations (The Philadelphia/NJ area and the DC/VA/MD area) I would like it so when the user clicks “Sales & Events” they are directed to the sales & events at the location they are closest to (Either the Philly/NJ or the DC,VA,MD area) Is there any way to effectively do this or will I need to create some type of gateway page so they can choose their location?
