keith slagerman photo & design

Hello,

just getting started with a photography business in sacramento, ca. i've been trying my luck with flash, and while i am no pro in any way, i think it's come together ok. im interested in usability, display issues, or any problems you man encounter.

or... does the site/images make any sort of lasting impact?

Thanks guys!

Re: keith slagerman photo & design

I'm afraid i am not a fan of this site, the button text overflow their buttons, the flash takes a while to load and do no like the way when you click on an image it tries to open a pop up window.

Sorry if this is a bit harsh i just felt it had to be said. I like what you are going for, but to be honest it would have looked better if you had done it in simple HTML and CSS.

Good bits, you have a large collection of images which is good, on your homepage i would include something about what you do, something to tell the user what you do, entice them to read on further.

Overall good first attempt, much better than anything i could do in flash, i just feel that it is unnecessary for your purposes

Hope this helps mate

Re: keith slagerman photo & design

I think that apart from your portfolio, you could have built this in static html.

you photographs are great, but there doesn;t seem to be much beyond that. some intoductory text on your home page would benefit the user.

Re: keith slagerman photo & design

Don't know if you guys monitor this thread for updates, but i did a complete redesign. straight html and css. with a flash display for images.

hopefully this is on the right track.

thanks!

Re: keith slagerman photo & design

I like what you have tried to do with the html and it is a good start.

However, tables for layout is not a good idea, you should use your css for the layout of your site

http://creativecoding.webforumz.com/...e-from-a-z.php

I lke your flash sideshow and the overall layout of your site, but i would definitely look into CSS for layout.

There are also a few errors you need to take a look at, including the lack of a doctype.

Good effort on the redesign though, keep us updated with any more changes, we do monitor for new posts

hope this helps

Re: keith slagerman photo & design

ahhh yes... css and divs. for some reason ive been avoiding it, but i guess it's time to change.

i havn't deployed it site-wide yet, but maybe you can take a look at this sample.... seems to validate ok too.

Thanks again for you advice!

Re: keith slagerman photo & design

Good start , yes the world of divs is upon us, better get used to it

a few tips for you, i would not have the main heading in an image, it cannot be read by a search engine, losing you SEO value, take a look at the following link for replacing a H1 tag with your desired header image

http://www.stopdesign.com/articles/replace_text/

For the navigation, i would also recommend using an unordered list, then using CSS to create a navigation bar, this is easier that it sounds don't worry, here is a link to help with that also

http://www.alvit.de/css-showcase/css...s-showcase.php

also i would include the footer text as text not an image, then use CSS for positioning and resizing it

Hope this helps mate, post back with any comments or questions

Re: keith slagerman photo & design

kslagerman - nice website. just a suggestion. kindly balance the size of your menu to the body of your website. if possible try increasing the font size of the "About" that's difficult to read for the old ones
