Re: New Online Portfolio
I love Flash when it's used like this (I'm in the minority here so prepare yourself for some different views later. lol).
Great artwork, but I'm not sure all of it's yours.
Your "created by" statement seems to suggest that it is.
Other than that, I love it.

Re: New Online Portfolio
Woah!!!!! that is over the top!!!
lol
You know what it tells me whan you have a design this elabourate..? It tells me that you have no or very little content!
You know what else it tells me? It tells me you've used a template. (if not I appologise in advance)
Looking further into this site just goes to prove this point.
You've obviously got experience and plenty of material for your portfolio... why not make yourself a site that is truely yours? This site, apart from being way way over the top, is really in-personal and I don't get a sense of the designer as a person. This may put potential clients off.
Besides man... Flash is dead. It's good that you've got those skills so you can call on them if the client requires it but your site should be so much more!
[edit]
Also, Never put music on your site. Except if it's a musician's site. Then don't make it start Automatically, give them a play button.

... and that's where I come in!
If you want a lilst of reasons why you shouldn't use Flash just ask!
The portofolio:
Remember your target audience. You can't seriously expect them to recognise Flash/Dreamweaver icons.
" I had fun with it and made some cool flashy stuff"
Erm......
The music:
1. Nobody visits a website to listen to music.
2. What were you thinking when you chose that music????
What impression were you trying to make on potential clients?
The context menu:
Very nice but useless. Just like the rest of the site.
If you're trying to show off to your friends: not bad.
If you're trying to build a serious website: not a chance.

My browser blocked a popup, which I assume was the full version of a thumbnail.

Re: New Online Portfolio
Function wise, it's extremely annoying. Too many, click click click... click click... to be able too see even one project.
If you make me work to learn about your company... well I just won't.
There are just too many things wrong with this site, would take all day to list them... so I won't.

Agreed. I like Metal, punk, hardcore and that kind of thing so the music genre is to my taste but I have to say it wouldn't be to the vast majority of potential clients.
If you want music with your site... listen to your iPod while writing it.

What is your problem man?
That statement was letting him know that I did actually look at it and thought there was just too many things wrong to list.
You need to mind your own business, worry about yourself.

Re: New Online Portfolio
hehe, this is exactly what I expected Thank for all the comments. My next version won't be made with flash, this is probably my last time using it for a portfolio site, so I wanted to go all out.
I MADE IT MYSELF :P I made the layout in photoshop and it was all developed in flash by me. Why would I make a portfolio site with a pre-built template???
As for the people posting about flash and music, your points are noted, and thanks for your comments.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooo!!!!
Don't listen to these anti-Flash philistines!
I liked your music choices, ambient and heavy. But saying I'm a fan of having them imposed on me via a website would make me a hypocrite. Demmit.
lol.

Re: New Online Portfolio
Ok, I definately will. You can just bookmark my site if you'd like. I will be busy with client work for a while, but I am always thinking about making a new version in the back of my head.

My problem is that I made a lengthly post outlining why conflicts occur in these forums. One of the things I outlined was people offering a "critique" and saying there were loads of things wrong but offering no guidence to the person to help them fix the problem. what use is that?

Naah, maybe "dead" is a bit harsh.... But it is going out of the limelight very quickly. Sure It is still a very powerful tool and some very glossy, professional effects can be achieved by using it but it is no longer the only way of getting a sexy looking website. The things you cna do with CSS, DOM scripting and AJAX these days is rivalling the former giant...

Re: New Online Portfolio
All you gotta look at is the % using ajax/ dom to the % using flash.
Nuff said.
