passingphase.co.nz/percepts

Percepts is an experiment in online publishing.

Features:
1. change theme at click of the mouse
2. 'breadcrumb' plus dropdown navigation system for sections and pages
3. navigation links for quick access within pages

Many thanks in advance

Re: On-line book

Sorry mate but you're gonna need to liven it up a bit. I nearly fell asleep....

I'd feel wrong critiquing something this early on...

Re: On-line book

Appearancewise
It probably encompasses a lot of the mood you're trying to capture but there are some things I didn't like about it.

The background (to the text) is interfering with the legibility of the text itself.

My default resolution is 1024x768. This makes your text box finish 3/4 of the way up my screen. The way I combat this is to have a repeating background image and anchor a separate one at the bottom of the page so it always finishes at the bottom.
You could also size everything in % instead of a set px.

The foot of the text box doesn't look closed because you have two blue lines framing the sides, and another separating the header, but nothing at the bottom.

Not a fan of the 'eye' image, or the layout of your header. It looks too squished together. I'd space the three items out more (actually I'd space two items out and ditch the 'eye' altogether).

[edit: I like the layout / appearance inside the site, much more than your opening page]

Re: On-line book

After-thought:

What would it look like if you removed the background image from the text and used it in the header instead?
