print from my website

Hi, my question is how do I set up an image on my website that people can print, but it has to be the same size regardless of screen resolution, or browser configuration, ie; it always prints as a 6" x 6" object on a 8.5" x 11" letter size paper?
I am very new at this stuff, so if this is obviously easy, or impossble, be patient with me

There is no way you can guarantee this. You have no control over the paper in the end users printer nor the the size they choose to print the image as they have the choice to scale it in their printer driver software.

Thanks ukgeoff, thats what I was afraid of, that means I have to rely on the end user having some common sense ( LOL ), hopefully I can create an instruction sheet that's not too hard to follow.

perhaps you could make a premade template thing in a word document with the set sized image in it..so when the user downloads the file from ur website, s/he can print the picture straight off at the right size...if im totally off track on what youra skign for..my apologies lol

Thanks Albert_chu, that's almost exactly what I did, I have given the end user the choice of either, a .PDF, or a full size pic on a .html that I added to my site.

This site is great, and very helpful, I am learning quite a lot, thanks everybody!

You can never rely on an end user having common sense. You can only accept the fact that they invariably don't.

It's nice to know what some designers think of the general public. Anyone ever stop to think why people don't know how to use their browsers? Maybe because all these years brilliant web designers have broken the rules so badly that any possible standard browser function never stood a chance of working. How can they expect visitors to use common sense when they didn't use any while building the site?

As for the thread, if you want to print you have to use an alternative stylesheet. To get rid of all the graphics etc so they can just print out the text.
