New forum for hosting / servers?

i see that you have no forums regarding servers, and what they are how to use them, as well as free or cheap server offers. this would be a good forum to add to ur site

What does everyone else think?

As far as web design and development go, obviously we all need hosting [servers] to run our sites on.

Just wondering what the masses think... does this topic need it's own dedicated area?

No, I meant like a place for information sharing, there are countless sites/forums with web design/development help, i know i have prolly been to half of them, and none of them have anything information wise about uploading to hosts, ftp servers, ect ect. now there are sites that advertise free hosting in many of those forums i have been too, but none with information on how to upload, ect. ect. that was my point to the post.

So you are suggesting a forum focused on helping people with their hosting, as opposed to offering information regarding hosting companies?

That's probably not a bad idea as many people ask about how to upload to FTP, but that question is usually answered in the other forums as that's where it crops up. Additionally, after telling someone how to upload via FTP there's not really a lot left to tell.

The major issues I can think of are:
Uploading via FTP
File permissions on Windows & Linux servers
CGI-BINs on linux servers
MYSQL/MSSQL/etc
PHP/ASP/CGI/etc and how to run them

Anything else?

I think perhaps that with only this material, it would be better for us to have a tutorial/articles section instead highlighting these topics, rather than a forum which will almost never get used.

Yeah, that's what the Cafe is for, forumz that just don't have much use. Although, I hope someone adds an article on how to turn a Dell computer with windows XP home into a server! , That would be REALLY helpfull. I am about to build a server using my Dell, so any help there would be great.

I am against a forumz for 1 reason. I am afraid (especially with Rob's SEO work now) that hosting companies will start spamming our forum. They already do enough and adding this forum would just give them more reason to. So that is why I say no to the forum and YES to the articles...

And PLEASE add how to build a server from a computer! I would love to know how!

Ok, I know a fair amount about building servers, but you couldn't really use windows xp home for an internet server as you couldn't run IIS..! Well...not without some very heavy hacking.

I think I see where you're coming from anyway and I agree with you. I think we could make these articles fairly easily.
