This can be implemented by just flicking a switch however, in my experience this is just one of those things you use for a week or two... get pissed off with the amount of emails you get... and then switch off.
I'd be interested in hearing everyone's feedback on this before switching on a feature that could potentially eat up a sizable amount of bandwidth.
Well given the low post rate in the php forum and some other forums that I frequent, I don't think it would eat up much bandwidth. I'd like to know as soon as a new thread is created in a few different forums, and it would definately increase my visits, let alone others.
I was actually thinking of implementing a 'do not tell me about new threads from this category' or at least something like 'do not tell me about new posts on the same thread in this category more than once'. For example - Any new thread in the new member forum is flagged as unread as soon as someone makes a new post. But if I've already answered the thread, I don't need to see it again...
Personally I'm just finding the number of posts to the forum being hard to look after at this level when the mod we implemented brings EVERY post to your attention!
I think it would be easier to allow 'forum level' subscriptions to 'specific' forums only....
As the PHP forum has a lower post frequency that others then I dont think any one of us would mind turning it on for this forum.... in fact... I'll go do it now.
