Domain blocked by spam filters - anything I can do?
Hi all,
If I send emails through the webmail provided by the company I rent my webspace from, it gets blocked by just about every filter I've tried. What steps (if any), can I take to resolve this?
I'm trying to get my customers to add the domain to their safe senders lists but I'm sure half of them can't be bothered and the other half don't know how!
Cheers,
Nick.

Why not change your mxrecord to point to another email provider. Such as Google Email. I had the same problem, and I changed over to Google's Free Domain email and it fixed everything.

Re: Domain blocked by spam filters - anything I can do?
Jacob,
Thanks for your reply.
I like to use the domain email as I think it looks more professional, i.e. it's the same as my website domain.
Cheers,
Nick.

blocked domains generally get unblocked after a week or so if spam stops eminating from them.

Re: Domain blocked by spam filters - anything I can do?
You did not understand what I was suggesting. I was simply suggesting for you to edit your domains mxrecord and point it to Google's mail server.
Google recently opened up Google Domain email which is free and it would be the same..if not better then what you have currently.
you@yourdomain.com
For email, my email address.
Jacob@JacobHaug.com
kasdhas@JacobHaug.com
etc. You choose how many email accounts you need, and can always add more accounts though your domains email control panel. You get 2GB of space, and lots of features. Plus great uptime, as it is Google!
Looks the same except it is Google. You can still use outlook or whatever to check your email, or you can check it online by going to a URL to which you set.
Here is more info about it!

Re: Domain blocked by spam filters - anything I can do?
Jacob,
Sounds exactly what I need! Sorry for the misunderstanding but I'm new to all this web malarky.
I've no idea how to edit the mx thingy but I'll do some research and let you know how I get on. I had no idea I could do this and probably wouldn't have found out without posting here so thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Nick.

No problem, go ahead and sign up for the Google Free Domain email service, and read the instructions on there for more info. They list almost every host, if you come across any problems...please let us know we can help!

Re: Domain blocked by spam filters - anything I can do?
Cheers again, Jacob.
Have signed up to Google but my webhost say this:
DNS records
We are able to change the DNS nameservers of all domains that have been registered or transferred to ourselves. We are also unable to forward/alias a domain to an IP address. Once changed the domains can then be parked on your account.
Unfortunatley we are unable to change MX or create A or C name records for domains that we host as this is a service that we are unable to currently support.
I take it I can't modify the DNS?
Cheers,
Nick.

Can't add an A or C record. Where are you hosting at?

That is one crappy company. I would change to Godaddy.com, Site5.com, Hostgator.com, or any company that allows you to have at least a little control.

Probably just someone on the same server as him is spamming.

Re: Domain blocked by spam filters - anything I can do?
Hi guys,
Thanks for the alternative webhosting suggestions - I'll make a note of them and change my package when this one runs out - shame I can't do it sooner.
Pete, I haven't been doing anything to get blocked - honest! I just assumed it was because it was a new domain and therefore 'untrusted' by most mail filters. As you can see, I don't know a whole lot about this!
Cheers,
Nick.

You might be right - just tried it with a few accounts and it seems to be working. How about I post a thread asking for people to pm me their email addys so I can check it further?
Cheers,
Nick.

Rob is correct on that. But you also have to keep in mind. You are on a shared hosting server. Which means if someone else your your server is spamming, your whole server gets black listed. I know, that sucks. But there is really nothing you can do to stop the 'other people' on your server.
As far as creating a new thread to request peoples email address to see wither your server blocks them is kinda pointless. But, I am afraid I could not allow that. You see posting an email address on a site like this could result in problems. Such as spam bots getting a hold of them...etc.
But please feel free to ask other questions. You know the questions that you are dying to ask, we know the answer!

Re: Domain blocked by spam filters - anything I can do?
Jacob,
Thanks for your continued help!
I see what you mean about the shared server - not much I can do there then.
As for the email addys, I was thinking people could pm them - or would they still get picked up by the bots? If not, I could setup a temporary email address. Then again, I might just see how it goes!
If I think of anything else, I'll be sure to ask.
Thanks again to you all,
Nick.
