It seems they are still idiots...
I'm talking about Verizon Wireless. I'm so thankful that in the UK we don't have Verizon.

Hey!
If I was told a rate 100 times less expensive than the rate I was actually charged I'd be pretty pissed! More so if I discovered that none of the "advisors" at the company I trust to handle my mobile communications can't even comprehend simple maths.
It infuriates me that ignorance gets passed off as acceptible and even standard in America.

well I guess you get used to it after a bit....
But you have to look into the fact that he may have done some web browsing or went over on minutes or texting. They don't have to tell you that you will be charged if you go over. It's sort of a common thing.

That's not even the point!!!!
Did you even listen to the first call? He was charged 100 times more than he was QUOTED! And when he pointed out the mistake to them in the plainest possible English he could they still didn't understand, let alone admit the mistake. Even the so-called supervisor just didn't get it. She has no business serving people in McDonalds, never mind holding a supervisor position at a telecommunications company!
Why don't they outsource to india!? They might not speak the best english but you can be sure they'd understand simple maths!

I spent alot of years doing telcom sales and if I made that many errors I would have been fired as incompetent. Yes, we had employees so stupid they didn't know what they were selling, but they were a minority that didn't last. And I always had a price sheet in front of me to work from. And since I was always taking notes of what was being said.
Unfortunately, I think Verizon probably has a policy of quantity of sales...not quality. And that can make a big difference on how you are treated and what happens during a call.

Exactly... Not knowing what your selling is fine as long as you can correctly quote the prices and sell it well but not being able to grasp that you've made a mathamatical error resulting in a one hundred fold price discrepancy, even when it is fully explained to you, is just unbelievable.

To give you an idea....The company I worked for expected you to generate a minimum of $500,000.00 in revenue a month, every month. I averaged between $2,000,000 and $5,000,000 a month...every month. And they accepted no excuses if you didn't or couldn't.
I totally understand the frustration when given misinformation, but I also understand how it can happen and why it happens. And with every other job, you get what you pay for and telcoms are not known for paying their wage slaves much for what they do.

No, I was selling Data Networks to Silicon Valley and city governments....you would be surprised how quickly it added up. $2,000,000 to 5,000,000 by the way is not the cost but the generated revenue.
