What is your upper limit on hosting costs?
I was thinking about the cost of hosting in relation to other daily costs and I thought an average figure of around £10 didn't sound excessive, or around £300 per month. Yet there are guys on this forum who seem horrified to pay that amount. Maybe I have the distorted view of where the priorities lie, but I can't understand the reasoning that says the hosting costs should be as low as possible.

Re: What is your upper limit on hosting costs?
Hosting costs are generally hugely inflated. I use http://site5.com/ and they are wonderful. I have a reseller account with them, and I couldn't be happier. I've experienced little downtime, it comes with all the industry standard applications, there are super fast loading times, and awesome customer support. In hosting, you don't always get what you pay for; I spend 400USD/year on my last reseller account and everything about it was absolute sh*t. Don't look at price, look at unbiased reviews, personal recommendations, and whether or not the plan provides what you need.

Yep, I also use site5.com, and they are really great. If you are not planning on being a reseller, I would recommend their $5 dollar plan...it rocks, and gives you access to the coolest control panel ever.

Mine upper limit is $10, since the site is a non-profit one.

Re: What is your upper limit on hosting costs?
Dido to Ryan, some people might use a whole dedacated server...which is of corse going to cost them more than $10 per month...more like $150 per month. You must know how much space your website is going to take up, and how much bandwidth you are going to be using before we can assit you futher.

Re: What is your upper limit on hosting costs?
As long as you don't host videos, you won't need that much space. All my websites use up like 15 mB. And I have 10 gB available...

Re: What is your upper limit on hosting costs?
I have a dedicated server, and I pay 35GBP per month for it. It is great, as I am in full control of what happens with it, and (if) it goes down, I have the ability to start it right back up again within 60 seconds! I have already signed up a few shared hosting customers on to the server for low space/bandwidth plans which have totally cleared any server cost. Because of the nature of the plans they are on, they do not use even a small part of the server, leaving about 95% of the resources open to me for my sites, at basically no cost.
If you are business savvy, you should think about doing something like that.

Re: What is your upper limit on hosting costs?
I pay £4.50 a month for 250 gb of Webspace & 2100 gb of monthly transfer. So £4.50 is my upper limit. The service I get from them is great also. Loads of decent features like auto installers for forums, databases, CMS. Also you get this download where you can access your webspace as if it was another drive on your PC (It's called Webdrive) and your PC actually detects it as another drive

Re: What is your upper limit on hosting costs?
Ha ha, yeah. They just seem to lie (badly) and try and shift the blame of the errors at their end onto the customer, when it obviously is their fault because after an hour of having it out with them, they find out it's a fault with them.
Cluster c8 keeps going down also for periods of 24hrs + (been down about 6 days already this year) and as my hosting is on that, so I have no site for that time.
