Sorry if this is covering old ground but I need advice on hosting. My website is almost ready, I need to sort out the domain name and host. How should I make my choice amongst all the companies out there??
The website itself is pretty basic and straight-forward but I am concerned that if I make the wrong choice it will affect how many people find it from a search. Should I just pick one and hope for the best?? Any advice in simple, layman's language would be much appreciated.

Just grab a domain name from a well known supplier (godaddy.com, 1and1.com, register.com, etc.), then grab a hosting account from any one of the same (I'd suggest 1and1.com, dreamhost.com, etc.), then link the two by setting the name servers.

I's actually register the site with the hosting service, as they often will provide you with a discount (just make sure they register it to you and not themselves!).

I use Lunarpages which is really really good, but it's not terribly newbie-friendly.

thanks guys for all of the above. went with streamline in the end for both registering and hosting. mixed opinions so far. very hard to contact them and the email service is awful but no problems with the site itself. thanks again.
