A Host For My New Forum

I am planning to put up my second forum site, but as of this moment haven't decided yet on what host to choose.

I have only a budget for a shared hosting and just planning to move to a vps or a dedicated one in the near future.

I have read a lot of threads here but still don't have the idea who to choose. My current host gives me headaches so I need to look for another. Who would you recommend for me?

There are "good" headaches and "bad" headaches

If your host disallows certain scripts, warns you of potential problems and pitfalls, these are GOOD headaches. He is looking out for you and other users.

If you have excessive downtime, no answer to trouble tickets and other users are allowed to put problematic scripts that hog the processor on the server - these are bad headaches.

So which is it in your case?

Also, please mention expected usage on BW and memory.

Re: A Host For My New Forum

Please do what I recommend to do, not what I did! Hostgator Too bad for me. I should've looked more carefully into the problems that people posted. Fortunately I had one and I switched to it: Drupalvaluehosting.com

Re: A Host For My New Forum

Drupalwebhosting.com is mentioned quite often at forums, are they new guys on the block? As they are probably involved into CMS hosting, will they be good for a forum?
To the OP: check www.Hostgator.com and www.Globaltap.com shared hosting options, they both offer quite intensive forum support.

Re: A Host For My New Forum

Have a look at companies which offer both: shared VPS and dedicated. Like Santrex.net. And you will be able to move easiely among one provider.

Re: A Host For My New Forum

Look at www.firstserv.co.uk

They are a fantastic company, offering basic packages to more complex VPS / databases etc. The best thing is there is always someone on the other end of the phone to speak to if you have any questions / problems.

Check SolidHost.com plans for your forum.
Think they will cover all your requirements. The company is solid enough for that.

Re: A Host For My New Forum

Join, any shared plan with basic features will do for forum hosting unless you want to have a lot of members on board at the same time (How many do you plan btw?) If the number of members exceeds the number of simultaneous MySQL connections allowed on the host's server, see it in the TOS or in the Abuse Resource Policy as I have it with ahosting.biz whose shared I use at the moment.
