Re: grrrrr tables!!
I've had a look with FF and IE and it's not obvious to me what you think the problem is. I do notice that the area taken up by the menu in IE is greater than in FF but as it's not trowing the design out, I wouldn't loose too much sleep over that. Afterall, the average user will be only using one browser so won't know there is a difference. More important are the errors in your code which stop the page(s) from validating and the fact that your site is unusable by anyone not using a standard gui browser. Please think about accessibility issues. |

Re: grrrrr tables!!
If tables are giving you so much grief... why not just scrap them and use XHTML and CSS?
You coulr re-produce that page no problem with those and it would all validate and be nice and accessible. Doesn't that sound lovely? If you need any information on where to start with this then just shout up.

Re: grrrrr tables!!
*SHOUT*
I've been trying to make sense of CSS since joining WF and acquiring a feeling of neglect and old age in the face of you CSS / XHTML user sob's. I've been to W3C and a few of the other sites I've seen as CSS guides but I still find it easier to layout using html and tables. Just this week I've finally positioned a sliced banner / NavBar, and a footer image, using CSS for the first time and was delighted that it not only worked but everything was where it was supposed to be in IE (and even the demm 'Fox'). Now I can't figure out how to add the actual content /accesibilty options to the page. Hope this gets easier... I'm already looking back at html and tables fondly. Rgds Fuddy-Duddy |

Re: grrrrr tables!!
Looks like I'll be taking you under my wing then eh?
lol Here's how I started with this stuff: I downloaded SimpleCSS from HostM http://www.hostm.com/css/ I played around wth that and it allowed me to see what making shanges in css did for the page and I soon picked up the basics.

Suitably reprimanded and abashed. (I do usually but I'm so involved in trying to figure out my attempts to make a working page using internal / external style sheets, I fergot. I know it's not much of an excuse but what do you want for free? |

Re: grrrrr tables!!
Try www.htmldog.com for some help on layout without tables.
As a noob who has never EVER done a page not in XHTML 1.0 Strict, without CSS and with tables, it looks ridiculously complicated to me. Give me a style sheet and a code validator any day of the week. :P |

Re: grrrrr tables!!
Here, I whipped up a sample layout for you to show how simple it would be to move your site to xhtml/css. All the css is in the one html file. You can immediately see the difference in the code base and such.
