mm...cheesy, but it might attract some people.
Oh and by the way, not to be a hard ***, but, that dreamweaver flash button at the top on your index....not attractive. |

Re: What do you think?
Hmmm, you need some work on your graphics...and how you present your flash to the viewer, but not bad for a beginner...looks way better then some of the crap I put out when I started! Keep up the good work and you will get much better!

Re: What do you think?
Nice start...And of course it needs work. Despite what some people say....If you think your work is perfect the first time you do it, you're lying to yourself. Creativity is an ongoing process. And when it is right, you will know. Keep up the good work and I look forward to when you are ready to post it for review.

Re: What do you think?
Change the font and add colour and it would look a million times better. Could you tell me what font you used? I am pretty sure I know but I don't want to confront the fact that it could be the font that I most fear. Also the skip intro link is obstrusive and a bit ugly.
Great for a first go though. I can barely set up the stage in flash so I got respect for anyone who can produce a working thingy. Pete. Last edited by pa007; Jun 14th, 2007 at 21:50. |

Re: What do you think?
Everyone is saying they think it's great for a frist website, but my honest opinion is: it's not good (that's a nice way of putting it).
- It's pixelated, - It's uncoordinated - It lacks a theme - Your start with black/green, end in black/red and the site doesn't even have either of those colours.... - The introduction which is, too long, squashed in a box with scrollbars and just happens to be a repeat of the intro on this page. It's not bad in terms that you can animate text and make it move around, but as far as design is concerned, it's very weak. That's my 2 cents.

Re: What do you think?
Spinal007, what did your early sites look like?
And Jacobs early attempts at Flash...I can imagine. Of course it isn't perfect or even near perfect. But, as you will learn, a little honey helps the medicine go down. Does anyone here ever not give an honest opinion?

HOWEVER, there's a lot of honey in this thread. MrMadison and Jacob wrote good constructive reviews. Fair enough. I just made sure to assess a few issues that shouldn't be left unsaid... Having said that, I'm sorry if I sounded harsh!

Re: What do you think?
Dan thought you were given that flash and told to use it?
On the matter in hand. Both your flash are basic and obviously done by a beginner but please don't let what I am saying put you off or upset you. My first flash had to be fixed by Jacob so your one better than me. With a little tweaking and experience you will be saying the same. We all have to start somewhere and where you have started is not at all bad. Yes you need to tweak places, sharpen graphics and generally make it more attractive to the eye. Well done, your on the right track anyway. |

Re: What do you think?
As a disbeliever in too much sugarcoating, I have to agree with Spinal. I understand you're just starting, but with the amount of professionally made graphics and Flash intros out there, surely you can see the difference between yours and others'. You need to be keenly aware of fonts, color, time, movement, clarity, layout, kerning, organization, contrast, sound, etc. when designing anything in the 4th dimension. There is no need to rush!

Re: What do you think?
I agree with Ryan. But as you all know, I'm not a flash kind of guy and my input aimed to go beyond the flash. The quality problems with the intro are obvious and he'll overcome this soon enough with a little more experience. But another very important point that had been missed is how the flash intro (whatever the quality) should fit in with the website.

Re: What do you think?
Hehe, Spinal... I didn't think it was possible, but Jacob has opened my eyes up a bit to the potential of Flash. Granted an intro isn't a great use for it, but I am quite amazed at some of its practical applications.

Re: What do you think?
I think this is starting to stray. He asked for honest responses so saying "What did yours look like when you started" etc is irrelevant.
Granted he is learning but the best way to learn is by example and from honest straight to the point critisism. Especially in this industry you have to take everything at face value and not personally. In this case flash is over kill, in the grand scheme of things flash is a valuable and useful marketing tool that can enhance any web site. To be honest this site does nothing for me but I also understand that it is a first attempt. Who here hasn't gone through 7, 10 or even 20 crap designs before hitting something decent. John basically what you need to do is sit down with a pen and some paper, draw up some concepts, choose some color schemes, and spend some time whipping up a layout that suits your personal style and taste. At that point you will yield far better results. This just looks slapped together and does not do you or your talents justice. That being said. Happy Friday!
